How to download larger files from mega.nz?

Description about the Problem

  • Recently I received a WhatsApp message with the link of some series of web exploitations and related to Cyber Security on Mega.nz cloud platform.
  • Some folders are larger than 50GB. 
  • So, I tried to download them. 
  • Then they said me to download the mega desktop version.

  • Then log in to my Mega account.


  • I did that as well and then I saw in the desktop app it's allowing me to transfer 4GB only. 

  • Now I knew this is not gonna work and if you have already used the 4GB transfer data, it will give you a message like below.


  • If this happened to you just log out from your Mega Desktop app and make sure to exit the app.

Researching Stage

  • So I did some research. But unfortunately I did not find any way to bypass this. I think it's because cloud computing made some serious progress in previous years. 
  • Anyway, after my research, I found a clue from reddit.

 

  • Above mentioned is an answer from the mega support team. 
  • We can see in that they clearly mentioning "For free accounts, the transfer quota is measured per IP address, not per user account." 
  • Now this is the clue.
  • Imagine if we can change the IP address of our computer, from time to time, we can download unlimited mega files. 

Performing Stage

  • Can we change the IP address of our computer from time to time?
  • Of course we can; by using a VPN service we can change the IP address from time to time. Use following HOXX chrome extension. You will have to create a free account to use HOXX.

  • This downloading via VPN server process will be some what tedious because we will have to change the VPN country time to time. 
  • Also make sure to download one file at a time.
  • Because sometimes, the servers can get slow and there are some various factors to consider.
  • But it rescue us from waiting 4 /5hr to download the next file. 
  • So the best practice is after downloading 1 file , change the country of the VPN server. 
  • If it again prompt the exceed warning close the tab and change the country again and again open the mega link. 
  • Then you will be allowed to download the files again. 
  • I think if you do not use your account it will allow us to download files in size of 4GB. 
  • I'm not sure about that because I always change the VPN server after downloading one file from the Folder.
  • So, I think it's the best way.
